“…Often times… we think that doing what ‘feels good’… is the same as ‘following our heart.’   And to some…. It is the same thing.  Because of man’s foolish nature…we get confused…”

FOLLOW YOUR HEART!!  We often hear the term… “Follow your heart.”  We all have done that, likely, more than we care to admit.  Let’s examine a few examples.  I have always “delayed” hiring people after the first interview… even those… for less important jobs.

Example:  I have interviewed people which… after the interview, I thought:  WOW…that guy has “everything” that I want in an employee.  He’s perfect for the job….on and on.  But instead…  I wait, and several days later, after interviewing others for the same job… I have, very often, discovered that the “perfect employee,” is not perfect at all, and would have been the worst possible choice.

Then another example:  To the Dads and Moms:  This is the perfect girl for me… she’s the girl of my dreams…she reminds me so much of Mom.  Then, a few weeks later, maybe a month, or better yet; when you’ve returned from two weeks of military active training….what we use to call “summer camp.”  Or maybe it was… just a two-week family vacation… and having been away from her for two weeks… WOW… absolutely the wrong girl for me.

And, how about the “perfect job.”  It’s the job that I’ve always wanted… the one I’ve worked for, and trained for, for the last 5 years…I really WANT that JOB!  Then, someone else gets the job…. And you move on…to another opportunity…. Which turns out to be the “best job I’ve ever had.”

My point:  following “your heart,” is not always the best thing to do.   We do the same thing in our spiritual lives.  We get confused with ‘following our heart,’ and doing what makes us ‘feel good.’ Heart…vs feel good?  Or… it may be a case of…  God…vs…satan?

Often times… we think that doing what ‘feels good’… is the same as ‘following our heart.’   And to some…. It is the same thing.  Because of man’s foolish nature…we get confused.  At least…that’s been my excuse.  But wait; let’s not confuse….being CONFUSED, with being STUPID… or being SELFISH, or worse…with being all about ME.  Which, BTW… might be the same thing as… all about satan.

It makes no difference rather it’s a career issue, a social issue, a family issue, or a SPIRITUAL issue.  All of ‘life’s issues’ … ultimately…feed into the spiritual issue.  It is the spiritual issue where the “buck-stops.”  If we ‘clean-up the spiritual issue’… then we’ve likely …cleaned-up the ‘other issues’… by default.  These ‘issues’ are not only “connected”….. They are FUSED together.  They have become ONE!

Think for a moment:  Following your heart might be no different that “following a drunk.”  Or, following a bank robber; or car thief, or the lead-man in a gang-rape.  We might be following our ‘girl-friend’ …who might be following the bad guy… satan.   Remember …“Hitler” who was so charismatic that thousands of people ‘followed their heart’…therefore…his heart.  Another sad reminder… Judas, seemingly… followed his heart.

So, again, following one’s heart… might get one into ‘big trouble.’  Matthew 15:19 – For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:   Proverbs 3:5-7 – Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
