VANITY: Vanity is a strange bedfellow. To some extent…we all suffer with this malady. Once we taste a little success…everything changes… our wardrobe changes, our grooming goes up a notch or two; we trade in the old clunker for a sports model; we buy that coveted boat; a motorcycle; the wife gets a larger stone… next, private schools are just around the corner; 3 bedrooms are traded in for a 4 or 5 bedroom with a 3-car garage and 4 bathrooms with 10’ ceilings….and all the trimmings.
For the most part….we just can’t help ourselves. How many of us have a TV set in every room, including the bathrooms? I don’t have any TV’s in the bathroom, but I’m guilty about the rest… are you?
Proverbs 13:11 – Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
Ecclesiastes 1:14–15 –And I set my mind to seek and explore by wisdom concerning all that has been done under heaven. It is a grievous task which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with. I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after wind. What is crooked cannot be straightened and what is lacking cannot be counted.…
Fortunately for most… once we get over the “mountain of life,” we come to realize that “all that stuff” is just that… meaningless STUFF, that gets in the way of the meaning of LIFE… that is: to “love and respect one another,” and to accept that Our Lord God, Jesus Christ, is the Savior of all mankind, and that the “only way” to the Father… is through the Son.
Blessings to all as we enter the Season of Advent…..… cjlb …12/5/15
