I absolutely CANNOT stand magazine subscriptions. I’ve only subscribed to several over the last 50 years. One was “Money Magazine,” and the other, I think was Forbes. The Money Magazine gave me a particular idea that saved me about $10K in taxes about 30 years ago. Other than that I’ve never gotten much out of them. I, after several attempts, quit subscribing to my local newspaper, as they became “too liberal,” and too expensive, and the print was so small (paper savings) that it became impossible to read….. so I get my news off of the internet.
One may wonder, then, why I am on the Executive Board for a Magazine. Well…it’s a specialized regional magazine that currently not being published; plus… it was a labor of love. The economy and production quality/costs forced us out for a while…anyway. Back to my point… Subscribing does not necessarily relate to magazines or the print media. Subscribing also means that one “subscribes” to a particular idea, project, political view, or media service. Like…subscribing to a cable service. Or, even a mobile phone service, or termite, and even security services.
Then there is the idea of subscribing to a certain kind of philosophy, theology, or religious preference. There’s always the “off-the-wall” liberal issues, views, and opinions that are going to be forced down our throats, too. Woe is me. My favorite… as you might guess…is…here we go…. GOD.
I subscribe to God. Yeah… that’s my favorite subscription. I subscribe to the Ten Commandments; the Golden Rule, and “all that other stuff” that brings me closer to His will in my life. My problem, as may be yours as well, is I subscribe to all the “stuff,” but I don’t always read what’s put before me. I believe in, and subscribe to “the bible,” but I don’t always read it like I should… even though I know that I need to.
I did start attending a “bible-study” program about 3 ½ years ago, which I have “subscribed” to every Thursday morning, accepting three times. I do, however, INTEND to start reading the bible from front to back, starting 1-1-15. I’m committed to doing this, just as I am in writing for BrOOKS-of-WISDOM each, and every day. I am confident. I intend to “keep my subscription current” on that matter, as well as being more of a SERVANT.
God does not expect us to be perfect, but what He does expect…is that we try. And, try again…. And again. Eventually, we will get it right…. And then, we will be “right with God.” Are you keeping your “subscriptions” up-to-date? Are you meeting your commitments? Are you subscribing to a “daily prayer” or, supporting your “favorite charity,” or Church, on a regular basis? Why not…. We try together… you and me? Let’s re-commit ourselves to “keeping our subscriptions” current. Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Romans 5:1-21 – Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
