Wouldn’t it be easier to offer encouragement to someone, then to criticize them… to build them up, then to berate them? The way “to get encouragement,” is to do those things in life that give reason for people that come and go…in your life… to recognize ‘what and why’ you are doing ‘it,’ and they are encouraged to “give you the encouragement” you NEED… to move forward, or to the next step in the journey. The “things you do” are not always voluntary, or planned, but are done because of circumstance or events that take place in life.
The way to keep this encouragement, is to continue to do those same things that attracted their encouragement to start with. And, the way to give it away, is to ‘find others’ along the way… that deserve your attention… and encouragement. When you believe in them and what they’re doing, and why they’re doing it… this, in turn… gives you reason to encourage them, thus… the process of… giving it away. So, you get to keep it for you own use, and you get to give it away…all at the same time.
ENCOURAGEMENT is a gift from God. One, in which… He intended for us to share with others. To give someone else encouragement is a “special gift,” …one which should “keep moving.” Encouragement is a form of LOVE that we can share with any deserving person. Our neighbors, our friends, our family, and our peers…need encouragement. Even, the most accomplished person… needs encouragement. Even our BOSSES need encouragement. Even our priests, clergymen, and civic leaders… need encouragement.
Be careful…though. Our encouragement has to be genuine… it MUST be genuine. We should extend encouragement with doses of love, respect, compassion, and need. We should no more offer someone “false encouragement,” than one would tell someone that their breath smells “so good,” when they just got through eating garlic on their salad…and you know it. They would recognize you as a liar right away, and possibly… someone with ulterior motives. Give encouragement freely, but give it, too… because it is deserved.
Encouragement is not just in the form of ‘talk.’ It also comes in the form of… facial expression, tone of voice, a smile, a kiss, a hug, a wink of the eye, a hand shake, a thank-you, a gracious compliment…and forgiveness. Plus, a another form of encouragement…could be… a RAISE in pay. It is called…giving.
Hebrews 10:23-25 – Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
