PRIDE VS PROUD: …The sin of PRIDE is thinking of yourself higher than you ought to be doing. We’re all guilty of that, more often, than not. When’s the last time you looked in the mirror… and thought…. Um…not bad? For me… it was the last time I looked in the mirror….I’m ashamed to admit.
Being PROUD of yourself, or anyone else, is recognizing who you (or they) are, in the scope of life’s journey. Being PROUD is more joy-based, which is a Gift from God, than selfish-based. While it is sometimes acceptable to be “proud” when we have succeeded in a particular project, endeavor, or a major accomplishment…and to be PROUD of it…is God’s way of “Smiling down” on us.
It would be better for us to be PROUD of our children, our family, our friends and co-workers; for it is in rejoicing that we lift people up, instead of our looking down on them…. in bit of jealousy.
From another view… pride is not so good when it is “self-centered,” and being proud is BETTER when it is directed in “honor of others.” That said, though, a “little sense of pride” is acceptable in the sense that we display a sense of pride when we try to “dress appropriately for Church,” or other special event; instead of dressing as if we’re on vacation, or going to the beach.
Philippians 2:4 – Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Ephesians 4: 31-32 – Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
