GRACE: A shipwreck survivor washed up on an uninhabited island. He prayed daily for God to rescue him. He built a small hut of driftwood for shelter. Later, he came home to find his hut on ablaze…. with smoke rolling up into the sky above. The old’fella was stunned with grief and anger. He cried out…yelling, ‘God, How could you do this to me… I asked You for help, but instead… you allow my hut to be destroyed?’
The next day, he awakened to the sound of a ship blasting its horn…as if to say: “Wake up sleepy head, I’ve come to rescue you!” He asked the ships Captain… ‘How did you know I was here?’ ‘We saw your smoke signal,’ he replied.
Moral of The Story: It’s easy to get discouraged when things are going bad for us, but don’t lose heart…. because God, in His mysterious ways….is at work in our life. Remember… the next time your hut seems to be burning to the ground; it may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God.
Remember…Moses… and the “burning bush.”
The word “grace” in biblical parlance can, like forgiveness, repentance, regeneration, and salvation, mean something as broad as describing the whole of God’s activity toward man or as narrow as describing one segment of that activity. An accurate, common definition describes grace as the unmerited favor of God toward man.
I’ve had my share of burning bushes… and the corresponding GRACE…and each time… God “cleaned house for me.” In one instance, an office building had a small fire, and I settled with the insurance company, repaired the damage, and then told the mortgage company the building had depreciated in value because of the fire (which I believed to be true), and they “voluntarily” reduced the mortgage balance by $130,000.00; which was far more than fair… as it represented a 1/3 portion, and value, of the building.
Another time, a restaurant that I owned (and leased out to others) was substantially damaged by fire… just after the Gulf War, and the economy was TERRIBLE, so… I elected to take the proceeds of the insurance (rather than restore the building) and paid off the mortgage on the land, which also had two other buildings on it….which were now…MORTGAGE FREE. And, it substantially brought me through a financial crises.
And, BTW, speaking of yesterday’s posting about IMAGE… I recently LOST an opportunity to buy an office building…BECAUSE a local realtor told the Seller to “be aware,” that I had torched my own restaurant building to get the insurance proceeds…25 years earlier (same story as above). So… again…IMAGES are important. It makes “no difference” if the information (or IMAGE) is TRUE, or NOT… it’s what the “listener” CHOOSES to believe. The selling agent in this matter is someone whom I had NEVER met, or had done business with. So, my message is: God is my PROTECTOR… and is… also, for YOU.
We are told in Psalms 91:1-4 – Whoever goes to the Lord for safety, whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty, can say to him, “You are my defender and protector. You are my God; in you I trust.” He will keep you safe from all hidden dangers and from all deadly diseases. He will cover you with his wings; you will be safe in his care; his faithfulness will protect and defend you. Psalms 91:9 – You have made the Lord your defender, the Most High your protector. Psalms 91:14-18 – God says, “I will save those who love me and will protect those who acknowledge me as Lord. When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them. I will rescue them and honor them. I will reward them with long life; I will save them.”
