LEGACY: That part of our life, which, when we are departed…. that anyone would “give a hoot about.” Except … if there might be a little bit of MONEY involved… then, they have the “fondest of memories.” “Show me the money,” would be the prevailing thought process.
If we had been fishermen, and were the bigtime tournament money winner, and…if we’ve only been one the “big tournament” once or twice…. then no one would really care that much, except family. On the other hand, if we’ve won every major fishing tournament, then we’ll be missed by a lot of fishermen, and the “bragging rights would go ‘on and on.’”
And…. if we’ve made a lot of moo-la, and spread it around to friends, in-laws and out-laws…then, again, a lot of people will miss us; particularly loving family.
If we’ve saved a few souls along the way, no one will care that much, except God, of course. But, if we were the Mother Theresa, or Billy Graham type, then a lot of people would care. What’s your legacy going to be? For me…um…I’m afraid.
We could, though… if we choose…to be “fishers of men,” just as Christ described to Simon Peter and Andrew: Matthew 4:18-20 – Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.…
I would like to save, at least, one soul for Christ…but, for sure, I’d like to be remembered for being a “fisher of men.” As we are told in Matthew 28:19-20 – Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
What will your legacy be like? …Blessings…cjlb..11/7/15
