“…So then, be careful about ‘rewarding for failure’…”

Image result for caricature of "unearned reward."SHARING our SUCCESSes: As Leaders, we will NEVER feel, or enjoy, the full impact of our successful leadership if we don’t share that success with “all” the participants. We can do this, preferably, as we progress through the “on-going process;” rather than… at the end of the process… that is… after we cross the finish line.

Allow everyone to enjoy the complete meal, from A to Z….not “just the desert” at the end. Include all the players, plus… those others who actually had an impact on the actual day-         to-day journey.

All of the participants, including the….Owners, Management, Lenders, Customers, even Family, and at the appropriate place and time… include…your children. Share with them what it means to be successful. Let them recognize the way that success looks and smells.

Sharing failure has limited benefits…. I know…there are those who insist that one must fail before they can really succeed. I say…Bull Turkey! I would rather have success on any level, than failure… even if I got the big dollars in the process. Please… Don’t reward me for failure!

There are those who collect the “big bucks” ….rather their leadership journey is successful… or not. Take a look at HP’s Carly Fiorina, or Yahoo’s Marisa Meyer….both collected obscene millions…for failure. This “payment for failure” is becoming prevalent in our government… at “all levels.” Shame…shame.

Remember what we are told in – 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

Also remember, in the “parable of the talents”…what the rich man did with his servant who buried his ‘single talent’ in the ground, so as not to lose it….Matthew 25:27-28 – “Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received it back with interest. Therefore take the talent from him and give it to the one who has ten talents. For everyone who has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. But the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.…

So then, be careful about “rewarding for failure.”  Rewarding for failure can start at an early age…when “everybody wins at ‘T-ball.'”  When one is given a “free pass” from one grade to another, without having earning it; and when “entitlements” are given to the free-loaders.  And, yes, I understand there are “exceptions” …as always.  Our Nation is “dumbing down” from “top-to-bottom.”  Think about it.
