“…So, what’s the ‘big deal’ about prayer…?

God provides us our needs....not necessarily...our wants.

God provides us our needs….not necessarily…our wants.

I don’t know if I’ve ever said so before, but my primary Ministry is PRAYER. To me, prayer is a responsibility….a duty. I take it very SERIOUSLY. Prayer is a significant part of my life. A little bible research tell us that Jesus is recorded as having PRAYED (alone) 38 different times; and then, after the Resurrection; He is recorded as having prayed on three separate occasions.

So, what’s the “big deal” about prayer?   Well, from my perspective… we have God (in the form of Jesus, the Son) PRAYING to God (the Father). God PRAYING to God?   Remember, the “Holy Trinity” tells us that God consists of God the Father, and God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Three “equals,” yet “separate” God’s. We mortals “will NEVER” understand the TRINITY. That is God stuff. But what I do understand… is, that Jesus thought it “important” enough to PRAY to God, His Father. And, THAT is good enough for me. So, if Jesus finds it NECESSARY to PRAY to GOD, then I do. Also, prayer if our “only form of communication” with God. There are “some few” who have had other “more direct” forms of communicating with God, but for the “rest of us,” we are confined to prayer. So… if you’re “not praying,” or lack genuine prayer, or have a very limited prayer-life, the you, very likely, lack a “relationship” with God.

Further, the bible tells us in 38 other scriptures to PRAY; and my favorite of these is found in Philippians 4:6-7Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

We are “also told” to pray for our LEADERS in 1 Timothy 2:1-4 – First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. This verse is “not limited” to Government Leaders, but “also” our Church Leaders, the Leaders in our Community, and places of “employment,” and a category that is, too often, overlooked….our “teachers and educators.” They “all need our PRAYER.”

We should not take our “prayer-life” in a casual manner. If we don’t pray with complete sincerity, believing (Mark 11:24 – Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours) that God will ANSWER our prayers…. Then we are just “running our mouth,” gaining nothing.

While it is most likely a bit “self-serving;” it is CLEAR that God is telling us to “ask for anything.”   So, a PROMOTION, or a “certain school,” are surely to be included. What is best served, though, would be “praying for others,” and their good health, welfare, and that they will come to find Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

To be INCLUDED in prayer; would be THANKSGIVING to our Lord God, for all that He does for us.   Is PRAYER a SIGNIFICANT part of your life. Note… I didn’t say…spiritual life…. I said…LIFE. This would mean… do you “fit prayer” into your “entire life,” (of 24 hours per day), or just your spiritual life… 1 or 2 hours per week. I’m not judging anyone… rather, I’m encouraging you to THINK.

Just how much time do you spend in PRAYER?   I believe that PRAYER is no different than TITHING.   That would mean… praying in proportion to your “giving”…. At least. ….Blessings…cjlb…4/30/15.
