My take is a bit different: Silence can, too often, imply an admission of guilt; a lack of courage; lack of confidence; avoiding the truth; the inability to make a significant decision; low self-esteem; the lack of a plan; an excuse for failure; or failing to do due-diligence.
Or, it can be a “sign-of-strength,” whereby you remain silent for, or until, the ‘right-moment.'” There is always that “just-right-moment” to say what you have to say. Knowing “when” to say something is, sometimes, far better than ‘just saying it’ at willy-nilly… and later regretting it.
Silence can also be an indication of poor, or the lack of…good Leadership, or even…good health. One must make a conscious decision to be silent. WHY? While there are exceptions…I’m always leery of SILENCE. (Libraries, funerals, etc. are exceptions).
And… don’t forget…there are some who are “paid to be silent.” Money can be…a non-lethal SILENCER. There have been some, though, who have “been silenced” in a PERNAMENT manner…learning the “hard-way” to keep their mouth shut.
So…there you go….Silence can be….both “good and bad.”
As Christians we are to preach the Word of God, discipline, and rebuke others. Many Christians are so worldly they’re afraid to stand up for God and save lives. Proverbs 21:23 – Who ever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.
Don’t forget, too, that some are silent because they are doing something far more important…it’s called: Listening. Proverbs 19:20-21 – Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future. Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
Another time to be silent…is when we are, or should be… listening to Our Lord God. Psalm 62:5-6 – My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
Remember, in Mark 14:60-62 – So the high priest stood up before them and questioned Jesus, “Have You no answer? What is it these men are testifying against You?” But Jesus remained silent and made no reply. Again the high priest questioned Him, “Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?” “I am,” said Jesus, “and you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power and coming with the clouds of heaven.”…
So…which of the ‘silent-types’ are you…?”
