If one is not open to review… or open to constructive criticism… or open to new ideas… or open to another’s viewpoint… then very likely, just…. maybe….. They’re not open for business. CLOSED… until further Advised.
Paul tells us in …1 Corinthians 13:1-13 – If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.
Also, we are cautioned in… 1 John 2:1-29 – My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him.
If you are like most people… me included… you probably just read (the above) this, and it just went right over your head… and, you’re probably thinking… “Gee, that sounds good, but it doesn’t APPLY to me, rather…the other guy.” Believe me, I’ve been there….and done that. For 60 years, I’ve been reading the scriptures and, almost always… thought the Gospel writers were talking to the “other guy.” None of this applied to me. It all sounded good, and means well…just not for me… because, after all…I’m a good Christian… I don’t need any reminders, or help… outside interference…from anyone. Stay out of my spiritual life.
It’s called…from a spiritual standpoint… being… LUKE-WARM. And, God addresses ‘that’ specifically…as written by John in…Revelation 3:16 – I know your deeds; you are neither cold nor hot. How I wish you were one or the other. So because you are lukewarm — neither hot nor cold — I am about to spit you out of My mouth!
Few of us think in terms of ourselves being “Luke-warm Christians.” I cannot answer for ‘you,’…but as for me…it was a ‘mind-awakening’ REVELATION, when I realized that I was acting out a role… a role that… I thought God expected of me. My problem: I wasn’t “living-out-the-role” that God expected of me. Spiritually speaking: I was CLOSED for business. I was a ‘Christian Robot.”
Think about this, too: It’s not just from a spiritual perspective that I speak, because very likely… if one is spiritually ‘Luke-warm,’ then…they are likely LUKE-WARM is most other aspects of their life…. Career, socially, recreationally, and SPIRITUALLY.
Thank you Dear Jesus…for waking me up.
