Too much PLEASURE… keep Professional relationships…. Professional: Some of the ‘absolute best’ advice ever given to me (circa 1969) …by a former mentor …when he discovered that I had gone to work for a particular person and company was: Don’t get personal. Never socialize with him (the boss). Keep it ALL business. Believe me….it was darn good Advice. …..Don’t mix business with pleasure.
I have adhered to this advice through the years…some 48 years ago, to now. I’ve made it an ‘absolute RULE’ not to ‘get friendly’ with the BOSS. Sure, one can always be nice, and ‘friendly too’…just NOT PERSONAL. Stay away from his house, his family, his social gatherings, his friends… and if possible… his church.
Why? Well, you see… the closer you get… the ‘more personal,’ then pretty soon… your socializing with him, and his wife…dancing, etc.… eating out all the time… you name it. And in my case… ‘Handling their money.’ Pretty soon…. ‘The wife’ is calling you… for “this & that… advice”… because her ‘hubby’ and, (your close personal friend), and…the BOSS)… and then later… ugh: DIVORCE!!! Next… hubby (your close friend) is telling you ‘stuff you don’t want to know)… Then, it’s all downhill from there. And, guess who is caught up in the middle. That would be… me… or you.
Again…STAY AWAY from close relationships with the BOSS, or anyone on the Board… and also…stay away from the COMPANY ATTORNEY!! And, I’ve always made it a practice… not to get ttoo close (as in personal) to my attorney, and my CPA. Being ‘nice… and friendly’, is one thing. Being PERSONAL is… entirely another. Don’t do it. When the ‘losers start losing’… they take EVERYONE down with them.
Generally… when/if the BOSS goes down… those ‘most close’… go down with him.
BTW… There is ‘just one exception’ to this advice. You guessed it… God.
God, Our Lord Jesus Christ… well, as you know… He’s the ‘boss of all bosses.’ And, it’s OK to get CLOSE to Him… He likes it… and you’ll en-JOY it, as well. The closer you get… the better it gets. You can turn to God for anything, everything, anytime, all the time, anywhere… and everywhere. He is understanding, forgiving, patient, loving, peaceful, open-minded… He’s everything you want and need. You can TRUST God… you don’t have to ‘second guess’ Him.
We can ‘get separated’ from God, by not following His commandments; by ‘taking up’ with satan, or his helpers; and…by indulging in the enticing… ‘pleasures’ of the WORLD.
Or, we can ‘walk with Jesus’… by a routine and ritual program of PRAYER, worship, adoration, and by LOVING and SERVING… others. And, don’t make promises to God that you don’t intend to keep. We can began that CLOSE relationship with God by ‘reading His WORD, on a consistent basis… starting with…
Psalm 25:4–5 – “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”
2 Corinthians 4:18 – “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
