Trying vs. Training: What do medical doctors, engineers, educators, NFL players, astronauts, physicists, clergymen, sharpshooters, electricians, gas-technicians, jet-pilots, military, paratroopers, CPA’s, attorneys, marathon runners, opera singers, weightlifters, golfers, and hairdressers have in common?
All of these fields of endeavor have “required certifications” gained through extensive training. Training, in some cases… over many years. Note: In none of these categories would one become certified, or successful in their field by just “trying.” Training is the only pathway.
On the other hand… what endeavors… which are highly responsible… some very powerful and influential, require little, to no training? Um…let’s see. For starters: The President of the United States…um…no certifications there. Then, there are tattoo artists, senators, congressmen, news commentators, marriage counselors, the marriage process, the divorce process, TV technicians, computer nerds, mayor’s, council-people, and governors ….none of these require training and/or certification. Try it….like it…do it.
Now…get this; those individuals seeking a spiritual relationship with their Lord God… they spend minutes per day, a few hours per week… and they THINK … this is all the training they need. The MOST IMPORTANT endeavor one should seek… yet most of us are… ill-equipped, ill-prepared, and poorly trained to succeed in a “meaningful relationship with God.
I’m not talking about one’s SALVATION, which is a “gift from God,” obtained by… us when Jesus Christ died on the Cross. Rather… I’m talking about KNOWING God, KNOWING Jesus Christ…and having a knowing relationship with them… not just an acquaintance. We are told in Matthew 28:19 – Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: John 14:6 – Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
How much “certifiable time” do we (that would be…you, and me) spend trying to get to know God, Our Lord Jesus… better?
