I didn’t choose IT… IT chose me. Is this destiny…fate, or chance? There’s very little difference between destiny and fate; and to a lesser degree…chance. In fact, I’m probably not smart enough to detect the difference. But… my feeble attempt would be that God controls one and the “big-bang-theory” controls the other. Which is which?
Either way, the point is this: For some people, they are destined for greatness (loose term), rather they like it or not. Some people “fight” against the tide… on certain issues all their lives, trying to do the opposite of what is being forced, imposed, or suggested…on them. An example might be the story behind “Harry Met Sally.”
Harry and Sally fought throughout their lives, never realizing that they were meant for each other, and ultimately they married…after fighting against the idea for many years. Another example would be Joel Osteen; who never wanted to be CEO/Pastor of Houston’s Lakewood Church. He was a “behind-the-scenes” director of sorts; but because of his Father’s sudden death, Joel Osteen was thrown into the pastoring role… of the soon-to-be MEGA Church. Under his leadership, Lakewood has become, probably, the largest individual church in America, claiming to have some 30,000 members….all from the foresight of a person who didn’t want the job. He didn’t choose the job…the job chose him. That’s my point.
Further, many of us are destined for greatness, and while not realizing it, once exposed to the opportunity…seize it, and excel in it. Much is the case when we “fight God.” He tugs on us, maybe for many years… but we resist the gravity of His Love. But… because of His Grace…He chooses us. Romans 8:29 -30 – For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. John 15:16 “You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.
Paul, the Apostle, it is said…wrestled with Christ..in Acts 22:7-8…About noon as I was approaching Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven flashed around me. I fell to the ground and heard a voice say to me,‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?’ ‘Who are You, Lord?’ I asked. ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.’ Christ CHOSE Paul to preach His gospel.
I seize this opportunity to share with you how, I believe, God “chose me.” For many years… I’ve read in Matthew 28:19-20 – Therefore… go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
I ignored this “directive,” thinking each time… Jesus is talking to someone else… not me. The very “idea” of me doing anything to enhance the “word of God” was not on my agenda. About 5 years ago, nationally recognized Evangelist Adrian Despres “re-introduced” this scripture to me, and this time… it got my attention. God NEVER gave up on me… Jesus Christ… CHOSE me to “spread His Word.”
This article, and this website (www.charlesbrooks.com – aka: BrOOKS-of-WISDOM)… is a direct result of… Fate, Destiny, and Chance, when colliding with the Grace of God…captured my heart and soul. Thank you Dear Jesus.
