BREAK-TIME: When I was a young manager, I’d never take a “real vacation.” You know the kind… an entire week, or two… to ‘re-tool’ everything.
Typically… When I did take time off… I’d take Friday …off and occasionally Monday… a long weekend of sorts. My reason: Because I wanted to be indispensable. I didn’t want ‘them’ … the big guns… to think that they could actually survive without me. Plus… I could always use the extra money for the unused portion of my vacation time. Intentionally…. I made it a practice to NEVER take a coffee break, and always ate lunch at my desk. Not because I necessarily wanted to…rather, I did it to ‘stay ahead’ of the alligators…. those who wanted my job.
It was not until many years later …that I came to realize what I was missing out on… not to mention recharging my batteries… my mental integrity, needing a little R&R. I found “getting out of dodge” a genuine relief. I missed plenty of opportunities to spend quality time with my family… time that I can NEVER make up for.
When you’re the Leader, it’s hard to take a break… but I still recommend… for every one…leader… or followers… try very hard to take the occasional “break” from the never-ending responsibilities of being the boss. No matter how important one thinks he is… he will soon find out that he’s not as big a shot as he thinks he is. There is always someone, lurking in the shadows… that will cut you down to size. His name is satan.
Matthew 11:28-30 – Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Taking care of one’s health, both metal and physical… plays an important part in living the Abundant Life…as without adequate relaxation and rejuvenation… we lack the strength and energy to fulfill the plans God has ordained for our lives.
Moses tells us in Genesis 2:3…And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when He rested from all His work of creation.
…Many Blessings as we seek time to recharge our lives…. cjlb….10/24/2017
