“…TO KNOW…or…to have knowledge: Is there a difference…?”

TO KNOW…or…to have knowledge:  Is there a difference?  Let’s do a little substitution analysis.  I have knowledge of cars, but I’ve never driven a car.  I know how to deliver a baby, or I have knowledge of how to deliver babies.  I know how to shoot a gun, or I have knowledge of guns.  I’ve done 100 heart transplants, or I have knowledge of heart transplant procedures. Did Steve Jobs have knowledge of Apples, or did he KNOW Apples?  Ten years ago, my extended family enjoyed a weekend of snow skiing in NC.  Upon arriving at the lodge, my brother-in-law had just come in from the slopes. I told him I was intimidated by the whole process, and he said…”Ah, don’t worry, there’s nothing to it.”  He proceeded to exhibit to me the various maneuvers necessary to safely reach the bottom of the ski slope in one piece.  After paying close attention to the instructions, I went out to the ADVANCED slope and, actually, did surprisingly well. Upon returning to the lodge, my B-I-L came up and complimented me on my skiing skills.  I said, “Well Tom, I couldn’t have done it without your sharing with me your knowledge of  skiing  with me.”  He laughed and said; “O’no, I’ve NEVER been skiing in my life; I’ve just been observing the skiers all morning, and have done some reading on the nuances while waiting in the lobby for you guys to show up.”  I WAS SHOCKED.  He had KNOWLEDGE of skiing, but didn’t KNOW how to ski.  Do we have knowledge of God, or do we KNOW God? If we don’t KNOW the difference; God does.  Jeremiah 9:23-24 – Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”  BTW…I’ve heard of a few “top-level-government-jobs”  that require neither “knowledge of, or KNOW-HOW.”  Blessings…cjlb…1/15/14
