We ALL would like to think of ourselves as performing in the mode of EXCELLENCE. There are “all kinds of AWARDS,” giving well-earned credit for such performance. In every walk of life, every career, marriage, and even in the Military and Religious circles….we find levels of excellence, and the recognition of such performance. Realtors recognize EXCELLENCE in sales achievement, number of years, etc. The Legal field recognizes its membership based on a number of criteria, awarding various standards of excellence, as does the medical and accounting fields.
People who have achieved levels of “seniority,” in marriage…are recognized for the number of years of “married life.” The Religious Community also recognize their membership with “extra titles.” And, as we ALL know…HOLLYWOOD is the “recognized leader” in recognizing their community with every imaginable, every conceivable, form of AWARD. Their SCOPE of recognition if so “far-reaching,” that one might even think that Hollywood is run by the Government, and if not, then maybe Hollywood is running the Government. I won’t bore you with the ACOLADES of Hollywood, beyond…the mention of OSCAR. We Americans are a “proud-bunch.”
All of these AWARDS of EXCELLENCE are, at best….TEMPORARY. Just as in any other ASSET… we can’t take it with us. The Roman Church reminds its membership on Ash Wednesday…when the Cleric applies ashes on the forehead, and repeats….”Thou art dust, and unto dust thou shalt return,” as told to us in Genesis 3:19.
That said…surrounding our “every thought, every moment, and every function,” is God’s PROMISE of “life-everlasting.” We receive everlasting life by dying to our own efforts and receiving Christ Jesus into our hearts as our Lord and Savior, and, when we do, we are instantly reborn and made alive in Christ. We may not feel any immediate change, but there has in fact been a rebirth in the heart (John 3:6–7), and we are now free of the fear of death; we have the promise of God that we will never die spiritually, but instead will live forever with our Lord Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:9–10).c
Later, when we die a physical death, our soul will immediately be with the Lord, and still later, when He returns, the Lord will resurrect our bodies to meet Him in the air. As for those Christians who are alive at His return, their bodies will be changed “in the twinkle of an eye,” and they will not experience even physical death (1 Corinthians 15:51–52).
So, my point is: The “only award,” or accolade, or recognition, that we should be concerned with is: The AWARD of LIFE-EVER-LASTING, with Our Lord Jesus Christ.
The CHOICE is ours…not our peer group, not our friends, and certainly NOT satan’s. And someday, maybe sooner than we think, we will be deciding between “The Oscar” and “The Cross.” …Blessings…cjlb…3/2/15.
