“…We don’t have much of a choice as to how, or when we die; but the choice of ‘where we go’ is ALL ours…”

20130924_155130What must one be thinking when they KNOW their life on earth, is quickly coming to an end. There’s a lot of different ways to “go,” but the end-result is still the same….The End. Some bible scholars suggest that you “immediately go to Heaven or Hell.” Others refer to conflicting scripture about being ASLEEP, in DARKNESS, in PARADISE, and some use the term…PURGATORY, as a place to be “purified” for some amount of time. In The END, final judgment… God will assign us to our permanent station. I’ll leave that “process” up to God.

My point here, is: Are we PREPARED to die? Are we prepared to die for JESUS? We live in a SOCIETY where “anything is possible,” meaning… any kind of death is possible. We’ve seen PROOF of that in the last several months. Add to “that” type of death; the more normal types of death. Death due to adverse health, old age, accidental, and various forms of killing one another. The Bible, especially the Old Testament, describes some “pretty horrible” types of death. It would seem that every possible form of death was perpetrated in biblical days. And, we see more of those horrible events in today’s society. No matter how one dies… in a few moments… it will be over, unless it is a “torture death.” But, even that has an END. Remember the Crucifixion.

I think for most of us… we prefer a “painless death.” Like dying in our sleep. Remember the widely circulated reports telling the story of high school student Cassie Bernall, being a Christian martyr in the Columbine high school shootings of 1999 in Colorado.  It was reported that one of the killers asked her if she believed in God.  And, when Cassie said, “Yes” she was then killed.

None of us will enjoy the choice of how we die; unless, we plan our own death. There are people who plan their death, to avoid a lengthy illness; or the associated COSTS, or those who simply CHOOSE to die for various reasons. While that type of “choice” may be an option; it’s not a trend. My own Great Uncle, at age 95, decided it was time to go; and arranged it.

I would like to think of myself being “ready and willing” to die for Christ. I pray that if that were my destiny, that I would hold true to my willingness… to The End. What would you do? While the thought is, I agree, morbid; it is never-the-less, a valid point which deserves our ATTENTION. We are asked by God, to believe in that His Son died on the Cross for the sins of all mankind; that we must be born again, to confess and repent of our sins, and to do our best to change from bad to good.

That is the real CHOICE… not “how” we might die; but are we “right with Jesus?” There are some who read this… that are already at the doorstep. I PRAY that we all are prepared to “die for, and with, Jesus. We don’t have much of a choice as to how, or when we die; but the choice of “where we go” is ALL ours. …Blessings…cjlb…4/11/15.
