Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. ….James 1:19-27
…I wish to call your attention to that part of the scripture that is “bold and underlined.” It says: “humbly accept the word planted in you.” This message puts us on the same level as the Apostles of Jesus. God “planted the word” into their minds and hearts, so as to PREPARE them to teach “the WORD to all nations,” baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And He has done the same thing for “each of us.”
We have a BUILT-IN reservoir of what is “right and wrong,” and the way in which God expects us to live…each day. We have that built-in INSTINCT to do what is “right, what is fair, and what is respectful” to our fellow travelers on this journey from birth to death…called LIFE. God has provided us with all that we need…. When he made us in “His Image,” He prepared us for this journey.
When Christ died on the cross for our sins…He provided us with all that we need to cross the line from this “worldly-life” ….to LIFE-EVER-LASTING… with Him.
The question is: Are we listening and doing? …Blessings…cjlb…2/12/16
