You light up my Life…was a ballad made famous by Debbie Boone in 1977. It was originally written by Joe Brooks as a love song, but interpreted as a spiritual by Debbie… winning her The Song of the Year, and many other accolades.
Some of us have “beacon-types” floating in and out of our lives… some are recognized for being exactly that, and… others are rejected as being “just another guy.” Some BEACONS are in it for “what they might get in return,” and others are BEACONS that suddenly appear at just the right time, doing just the right thing…and are “in and out” and you never really realized they “did their job”… and left without you even noticing. Their “job” was to be a “beacon of love, joy, and wisdom.” Too often we don’t realize these “beacons” are in our life, until they’re gone. They seek nothing in return. The “job” they do…as BEACONS…is the “job” that God gave to them. That is their “role in life.” They are The BEACONS! They go about… “Lighting up lives” all the time…everywhere.
If we have “ears to hear, and eyes to see,” then we might recognize that God is the BEACON that “lights up our own life,” and “we can if we choose,” …. just …by our mere existence, can extend that same beacon to our family, co-workers, business community, and those we might have influence. We too, can be “Beacons of Light,” the kind that “light up the lives of others.”
The “Love of God,” is “The LIGHT” in our Soul that spreads His Grace and Love through each of us. In Matthew 5:14-15, we are told… You are the light of the world- like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all.
This isn’t a “suggestion” that Jesus gives us…rather…it is an INSTRUCTION to do good, and one that should not be ignored. Whose life are you “lighting?”
