“… We’ve all heard the expression that LOVE is a universal language….”

Language barriers are difficult at best.  We Americans have difficulty communicating with our own family, spouses, peers, and friends; so the idea of communicating with someone who has a strong language barrier, or possibly does not even speak English, would be a big, and sometimes in-surmountable problem.  In recent years, I’ve built 3-4 houses for family members, and have had Latino workers for the most part; and communicating with them proved to be a challenge…for sure.  In fact, I am having some long over-due work being done on my personal residence (as we speak), and only one of the workers speaks English, and the others speak none at all.  But here is what I have found.  We’ve all heard the expression that LOVE is a universal language.  And, treating people, all people, with respect, kindness, and a sense of fairness is a form of Love, and therefor breaks the language barrier.  Do we have trouble communicating with Our Lord Jesus?  Do we speak His language, or Him ours?  How do we go about insuring that we and God are on the same language level?  Overcoming Barriers ….by Jennifer Sudderth, tells us: “There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28Jesus Christ wants his body to become one—every church, every person. He wants his body to experience the unity with him and with each other that he experiences with his Father. But this unity is hindered by barriers of many kinds. These barriers may take tangible and intangible forms. But whatever their form, they are always accompanied by one thing—fear, fear of our differences and the unfamiliarity which those differences bring. In order to become one, we first have to overcome our fear of differences by facing them and by changing the way we perceive them. Without getting into cultural and other differences, we can overcome most communication problems with obeying the Golden Rule. …..Blessings…cjlb…8/7/14
