“…What DEFINES us? What are we known for? Who do we represent? If others don’t see God… as part of our DEFINATION… then, we lack definition…”

What defines us? What are we identified with? Who are we identified with?  What is ‘our identity?’  We’ve all heard the expression….you are what you eat; or…you are who you associate with, or…you are what you dress like…. Etc.   For the sake of this article, I’m going to attempt to define myself. In doing so; I will use my own appraisal, and how I think others view me.

I think I am viewed as: honest; forthright; trustworthy; savvy; blunt; candid; shrewd; a bit mysterious; respectful; some think a hidden agenda; he’s fair; hard to get to know; a bit quite; stoical; a gentlemen; a bit of a maverick; hard to get along with; doesn’t cuss, drink, or smoke. But most of all… he’s God fearing.  And to some… he’s an SOB.

My point?  One could find anybody willing to offer an opinion about me, or you… good or bad.  And… that’s GOOD.  What ‘if’ no-one had an opinion?  What if… we were just a bug in the corner… no-one had ever heard of us?  That’s not good.  True…  I’ve been out of the ‘rat-race’ for some 20 years; but I’d wager that 75% of people in my peer group… know exactly who I am.  Why?  We leave… good, or bad… a ‘lasting impression.’  You think me a bit egotistic?  Maybe…. Better that… than a ‘wall-flower.’

It is ‘better’ to be recognized for something…then NOTHING.   Here are a few characteristics that should DEFINE us.  If we expect to be a LEADER, then we have to have DEFINATION.   We have to conduct ourselves… such that people KNOW exactly who we are… what you STAND for…. And, that we are TRUST-worthy.   If we go through our career, such that, we’re INVISABLE… then failure is inevitable.

What effect would John the Baptist have had if he were obscure, or un-obtrusive?  The Baptizer had an ‘offensive nature’ about him. He had DEFINATION.  God chose him especially for the role he played. The Apostle Peter was known to be a ‘hot-head.’  Moses had developed a ‘reputation’ for being a HOTHEAD, too. And, David… well, he made ‘his mark’ by planting a rock in Goliath’s forehead… killing him instantly, taking his head off as a trophy. He had DEFINIATION.

Jesus Christ has definition too.  Jesus was the Son of God.  He was legendary curing the lame, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, cleansing the leper, and raising the DEAD to life. Jesus was DEFINED.  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; and on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

What DEFINES us?  What are we known for?  Who do we represent?  If others don’t see God… as part of our DEFINATION… then, we lack definition.

…Blessings to all… as we seek Spiritual Definition…cjlb… 2/14/2018

Note: Happy Valentine’s Day… to all.  Also, today begins the observance of Lent.  This is the first time, since 1945, I believe, that Valentine’s Day, and Lent… have fallen on the same day.  Possibly, then, we might consider ‘spreading LOVE’ around for the next 40 days… in Thanksgiving, to God, for all that He provides us, especially… His own Love.
