As youngsters; my brother and I were tasked with cutting the yard each week, earning one dollar each. Dear Brother, knowing that I was meticulous in my yard cutting skills; would ALWAYS cut the yard in some crazy pattern… inviting me…by his careless landscaping skills…to take of the whole yard. Falling for his scheme… I volunteered to cut the entire yard, so I ended up cutting his portion properly…with him getting both the accolades and the money.
He sat back doing nothing, while I was proudly cut the entire yard; yet we both received the same wage. Two Thessalonians 3:10-12 – For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such person we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.
While there are those who get ahead without working in earnest; there are many more who get ahead by employing good work ethics. The hard worker is always in pursuit of a leadership role, as the prize of his efforts… that being the reward of his hard work. Then, there is always the one who sits on the sideline, with his hand out, waiting for his entitlements; and for some reason, unbeknownst to most reasonable thinking people, will get more than what he asks for. Proverbs 14:23 – In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.
We all know who the workers are, and who the lazy crowd consists. My advice is this. Work hard… always. Never look over your shoulder… wondering how close the competition is. Too often, that casual look…could cost you the blue ribbon. Stay focused on the goal. Proverbs 21:31 – Tells us…The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD.
