Very often, you can look at the Mama-Bear and know pretty much what the Daughter-Bear is going to look like 30-40-50 years down the road. I don’t pretend that this “only applies” to mothers and daughters; I also suggest that it applies to “father and son.” In looking at my own two boys… I see them picking up my “character traits,” and some of my habits, sayings, and facial expressions. I NEVER noticed this in the years gone-by, but as we all have begun to grey….I see it coming. I can hear it too…. “You’re just like you Father,” or you sound “just like your Mother.” Then all “heck” breaks loose. That’s just the way it is.
So, men…. Listen up… “Tell your Chill-in” that if they don’t like what they see, then…. Keep on looking. Now for me… I’ve got “no-complaints.” Thank the Good Lord… but my wife, now, she probably has a few… just a few. If there are any ladies reading this…? Then the same applies to you… tell your girls. But the FACT is…. None of it will do any good. Love is a strange bed-fellow… or so it’s said.
So, while our children, seemingly, inherit some traits from their parents; the most important characteristic they can pick up from is their “belief and trust” in our Heavenly Father. “They say”…the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. As parents and grandparents, it is our responsibility, and moral duty, to teach our children and grandchildren, to live and walk in the Spirit of God. Our children may not, always, remember what you say, but they will remember what you do.
We are told in Galatians 5:22-25 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
Maybe some of us have been walking in the Spirit, yet we don’t see any fruit developing….but in time, it will, as some fruit takes a long, long time to develop – but, NEVER, NEVER give up; as with God, all things are possible…. And God’s WILL, will be done.
Maybe our children would be better off if they “would do as we say, and not as we do….um?”..…Blessings… 4/6/15.
