A belated Thank-You…to LinkedIn, and Associates. After some 50 years in business, and feeling a bit SMUG about having lasted, somewhat successfully, through it all, I’ve come to realize that I believe that I have left a bit “too much” on the table. No… I don’t think that I can actually put a $$$ value on just how much, but much it is. You see, like many, I’ve gone through “it” thinking that “I knew best.” My way, or the high-way. Just one-way… and it’s my way.
My point is this: It is through my ‘association with LinkedIn” over the last several years, and meeting some “very capable” people (as a result) that I’ve discovered that I could have done one or two things that would have influenced the “out-come” substantially. Number One…I believe that I could have made more $$$. Number Two, rather more $$$, or less, the “ride would have been MORE FUN.”
You see…. I’ve NEVER been attracted to the idea of “networking,” feeling that I was not well-suited for it. It all seemed so FAKE. I didn’t LIKE it; I didn’t have the PERSONALITY that would have added to it; and I didn’t ADAPT very well to it….so, I avoided it. And, I got along pretty good… without it…you know… all the hand-shaking.
In the last four years of LinkedIn association, I’ve actually seen a number of people “build their business, develop numerous important contacts; maintain old ones, and develop an overall business decorum necessary for sustained SUCCESS. I’ve actually seen friends of mine find very high paying and rewarding new jobs…. Directly as a result of LinkedIn. I’ve LEARNED a lot, by “my PARTICIPATION,” in LinkedIn, rather than being “just a by-stander.”
It’s not only, WHO you know, or WHAT you know, but “what you do with what you KNOW.” LinkedIn helps you “level the playing field.” I’ve become “more informed,” and more HUMBLE. So my sincere THANKS to those 835 people who “invited me” to be their LinkedIn Associate. You have made my life very pleasant… thanks be to GOD. Which now, having mentioned the “word God,” it reminds me that …. Four years ago, one hardly EVER heard the word GOD. But today, I find God all over LinkedIn.
Because of “space limitations,” on LinkedIn, I decided about one year ago, to “branch out” to my own web site….www.charlesbrooks.com, AKA: BrOOKS-of-WISDOM, and run that website as a adjunct to LinkedIn. I am now reaching many, many more people who are “not afraid” to talk about God, as to HOW He relates to the business, social, and family life of the LinkedIn members.
LinkedIn, and my own website, allows me the PLATEFORM with which, to share my 50+ years of business; and the WISDOM that I’ve accumulated along the way…again, thanks be to GOD, and to you…my LinkedIn friends. Yes, even though LinkedIn, I’ve learned, or been reminded, to give credit where credit is due: 1 Chronicles 29:10-13 – Therefore David blessed the LORD in the presence of all the assembly. And David said: “Blessed are you, O LORD, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name.”
So, I will continue to “share my thoughts” with LinkedIn members, and those others on my website, that so graciously follow me. Primary amongst those thoughts is that God, through Jesus Christ, is the Great Leader, Teacher, and Motivator….. Blessings…cjlb… 6/23/15.
