You’ve heard the cliché …. ‘Work until your knuckles bleed… then work some more.’ God tells us to work hard, diligently, and commit to doing good work. God wants us to succeed, but “just talking about it will not bring success.”
God tells us to be patient and success will prevail. Rather you are a leader… or a follower…is NOT the POINT. The POINT is…to do either at our very best… and not take our responsibilities lightly. Being a Leader or a Follower is not the point…the point is to do either at your best, and not to take our responsibilities lightly.
King Solomon told in… Proverbs 14:23 – All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.
Then… Moses gives us guidance in Genesis 3:19 – By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
As we speak… I have a building that is being converted to restaurant use… and much of the work is being performed by a Chinese firm, and Chinese labor. From my perspective, they seem to ‘work hard’ doing it the ‘least expensive’ way. And, as long as quality is not compromised… that’s OK with me.
My point of reference… is there another perspective to ‘working HARD,’ and that would include ‘working SMART?’
I’m reminded… some 40 years ago, while looking for ways to ‘save money’ on shipping expenses; we decided we could ‘save a lot’ of money, if we used our own trucks… instead of conventional trucking lines… to bring our inventory in from the north, as opposed to paying the supplier extra for shipping. The savings was ‘contingent’ on our finding something that we could ‘take north’… thus reducing our expenses even more. Instead of going north with a ‘empty load’, and returning ‘full’…while less expensive…we could SAVE even MORE… if we took a full load north, and brought our own supplies back… thus, eliminating the ‘dead-head’ effect. Was it SMARTER? Sure, but it took a lot of pre-planning… and ‘no mistakes’… for it to work effectively, profitably, and thus… both SMARTER and HARDER.
While the ‘smart-savings’ were there… they were weakened by unreliable, and steady… loads going north…. So, we eventually abandoned the idea… in favor of ‘just working HARDER.’
