Some of us are “very-hard-headed.” We insist on learning things the HARD-WAY. From the beginning of TIME, we have been told how to make things easy. And from the beginning of time… we’ve wanted to “do-it-our-way.” We just don’t want to listen.
Our parents, (ok…some didn’t) told us, early on, the right-thing to do. Say “yes Sir, and no Mam.” And, still, some kids find that “very-difficult.” Thank God, my dear Step-Father (#3), in the nine years I lived under his roof…taught me just about everything I needed to know.
Once, on a trip south, our dog Barron (a Doberman-Pincher), had the SHIVERS, (that meant just one thing). Dad stopped the car, we all jumped out, but Barron didn’t make it in time. My brother, the man (age 13) that he was, with his bare hands, reached in the car and began to “throw-out” the “stuff” and some of it “hit me.” Dad, I said, “Walter is throwing ‘stuff’ at me.” My Dad, in his infinite WISDOM…said, “Get out of the way.” So, you see, I learned at about age 12 to “get out of the way,” when people start throwing “stuff” my way. I NEVER forgot that lesson. I didn’t have to wait until I was 35 or 40, to learn, “get-out-of-the-way.”
A Father’s dream is when he sees his children living such that he KNOWS they were listening. Still, today, my children tell me… “Pop, I’m sure glad you taught me this or that.” It warms my heart. Sometimes, the “stuff” didn’t STICK, and they had to learn the hard-way….but they learn…eventually.
We find “the slow learners” throughout life…on the job, friends, social contacts, in government (WOW…they STILL don’t KNOW); who just don’t listen… they still want to do it “their way.” We’ve all heard the saying…”my way…or the highway.” Well… “stuff” happens. When we don’t listen… well, sometimes, we lose our job… or our license, or WORST… our LIFE.
Adam and Eve didn’t LISTEN….”Stay away from the ‘tree-of-life.” We’ve been paying for that BLUNDER for centuries. God told the “children fleeing Egypt,” to do this, or that. NO! They wanted to do it their way, and so God “let them walk around the dessert for 40 years,” instead of taking the “short-cut.” Moses, while God’s chosen one, had a hard-time listening, and he was “forbidden” access to the PROMISED LAND.
Fortunately for us…God sent His “only begotten SON,” Jesus Christ, to die for the SINS of all of mankind. He gave us a “new covenant.” A “new deal,” a new opportunity. With the sacrifice of His Son…. All of our SINS were “washed-away.” God got rid of all the STUFF.
God made it easy for us…. Just listen…He said. You have eyes to see, hears to hear….pay attention. Jeremiah 31:33-34 – “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the LORD, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. “They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares the LORD, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
How easy can it get? God gave “us” very understandable, easy, clear, instructions. But, NO, even now, we are “still” HARD-HEADED. We’re still slow learners; but fortunately, God is a “merciful God.” In Isaiah 54:8, we are told: With everlasting loving kindness will I have MERCY on thee, saith Jehovah thy Redeemer. And, in Romans 9:15, He says: I will have MERCY on whom I have MERCY. …Blessings…cjlb…3/11/15.
