Defining vs Refining Moments: Very likely, you, as well as most… can tell a story about ‘your defining moment.’ For some; it will be high school, and/or, college graduation. For others… marriage, the birth of their first child. Even the death of a loved one could be a defining moment… especially for immediate family, and close friends. And, there are those, who have EXPERIENCED some sort of ‘spiritual’ phenomena.
For many… it is a time in their career where they were recognized, or accomplished a certain distinctive achievement. For my daughter, recently, she was awarded a PhD. She went back to school at age 42, and gained this distinction, while still… raising her two girls…and teaching. Today, she is an Associate Clinical Professor at our largest state university. But of course… I’m as proud as a peacock.
Defining moments don’t necessarily have to be so visible, or public. They could be something more personal… like getting a big promotion, or a substantial raise. Or even… like coming to the realization that there are at least 100 other people who can do the same thing that you do… as good… or even better. Maybe it could be better called… ‘A wake-up call.’
Correspondingly…a “refining moment” might well be…when we decide to separate ourselves from the pack… by becoming a… Leader of men… instead of one of many followers… of man. No… this is not an ‘overnight’ process… but one that can be achieved… seriously… as part of a sophisticated, plan-of-action. It would be a process of gathering together ALL the essentials and getting down to serious preparation. Very often, the process begins… BECAUSE…a defining moment happened along the way.
Then, and hopefully for many… Our ‘defining moment’ comes when we accept Jesus Christ as Our Lord and Savior. And… the ‘refining moment’ comes when we ‘get down to work’ …doing our BEST to SERVE… first Him… then OTHERS… on the way to ‘life-ever-lasting.’
Have you had your ‘refining and defining’ moments… yet?
