“…If you don’t know who your own child wants to emulate, then it’s very likely NOT YOU….”

As your children grow and mature, to whom do (you think) they “look up to,” first and foremost”….you or someone else?  Who is their role model?  Who do they want to be like when they grow up?  Ask yourself that question.  Who did you want to emulate as you were growing up?  You Father, your Uncle, an older Brother, or your best friend’s Father?  If you don’t know who your own child wants to emulate, then it’s very likely NOT YOU.  In my own case, it seems to me that my two son’s want to emulate me.  And, I base that own how they treat me, how they react to the things that I say, and our overall relationship.   My daughter tells me that she wants to marry someone just like her Father.  And, I think that her husband has many of the same traits that I have; so maybe she’s been successful.  Only time will prove that.  Does all of this make me a “perfect father?”  Heck NO!  I wish that it did, but I know better.  I think, though, that those things in my life that my children would most dislike about me, are those things that they realize (hopefully) that simply is proof-positive that their Dad is not perfect; and they give me a “free-ride” on those issues.  With that said, I believe (and hope that I’m correct) that they are, all, smart enough to pick-up on those quality traits and codify them for their own use, and ignore those negative traits; giving their ole’man the benefit of the doubt.  But, you know, there is a FATHER-figure that all of mankind can, and should, make every effort to emulate…and that, of course, would be Our Father in Heaven; Our Lord Jesus Christ..  You know, the One who, when creating each of us, did so by using Himself, as the Mold.    He must LOVE us very much; as he created us in His own image; he’s “guided” each of us through our walk in life. Proverbs 3:1-3 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. …Blessings…cjlb…5/8/14
