“…If you don’t own your own Bible, and if you don’t not read it on a consistent basis… then you, my friend, are clearly not a “committed Christian…”

IMAG0951The Bible in 50 words:   God made…Adam bit…Noah arked…Abraham split…Jacob fooled…Joseph ruled…Bush talked…Pharaoh plagued…Sea divided…Tablets guided…Promise landed…Judges led…Saul freaked…David peeked…Kingdom divided…Prophets warned… People exiled…Hope rose…Jesus born…God walked…Anger crucified…Love rose…Spirit flamed…Word spread…God remained.

This is a very clever rendition of the Bible, and well serves its purpose. That said….unless you know, at least, something about the Bible, none of it make a bit of sense.  I was 50 years old before I ever owned a Bible. Shame on me.  That didn’t mean that I was not fairly familiar with it, as I had listened to it repeated over and over, again, from the Pulpit for the previous 45 years. But, let me be clear…. If you don’t own your own Bible, and if you don’t not read it on a consistent basis… then you, my friend, are clearly not a “committed Christian;” and just fooling yourself to thinking you are. Here’s why: Just knowing about, or knowing of…the Bible…in any form of summary, or cliff notes, is a very short-sighted-short-cut to having a conversation with God. In fact, you’re flirting with the APPLE. Joshua 1:8 – This BOOK of the LAW shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success. Psalm 1: 1-2 – How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the LAW of the LORD, And in his LAW he meditates day and night. Psalm 119 12-16 – Blessed are You, O LORD; Teach me Your STATUTES. With my lips I have told of All the ORDINANCES of Your mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of Your TESTIMONIES, As much as in all riches. I will meditate on Your PRECEPTS And regard Your WAYS. I shall delight in Your STATUTES; I shall not forget Your WORD. Submitted by cjlb…. Blessings…7/11/14
