“… If you ever expect to be a LEADER, then you have to have DEFINATION…”

20131103_065041What defines you? What identifies you? What are you identified with? Who are you identified with?  We’ve all heard the expression….you are what you eat; or…you are who you associate with, or…you are what you dress like…. Etc.   For the sake of this article, I’m going to attempt to define myself. In doing so; I will use my own appraisal, and that which I think others view me.

For those in my community who know me; I think that their view of me is: he’s honest; he’s forthright; he’s trustworthy; savvy; blunt; candid; shrewd; a bit mysterious; respectful; he has a hidden agenda; he’s fair; hard to get to know; on the quite side; he’s stoical; a gentlemen; he’s precise; a bit of a maverick; hard to get along with; doesn’t cuss; doesn’t drink; decisive; and he’s God fearing.  And, lastly…he’s an SOB. OK…that’s enough of that.

Here’s my point…. One could find just about anybody that is going to offer an opinion about me… good or bad.  And, frankly, I like that. What “if” no-one said anything?  What if… I was just a bug in the corner, and no-one had ever heard of me?  That would be the worst type of scenario.  And, I sure don’t want that to happen.  Granted, I’ve been out of the “lime-light” for, at least, 15 years; but I’d wager that 75% of people in my peer group, would know exactly who I am.  Now… you might think me a bit egotistic….and, I probably am…. A bit. But, so what?

If I was not recognized for something…then, I may as well go home, roll over, and die….. Because… my time has come and gone.  It’s my job (and yours), to make sure that doesn’t happen.  These are the characteristics that DEFINE me.   If you ever expect to be a LEADER, then you have to have DEFINATION.   You have to conduct yourself, such that people (in your peer group) KNOW exactly who you are, and what you STAND for…. And that you can be TRUSTED.   If you go through your business career, such that, you’re INVISABLE; then don’t expect much in the way of results, or sustainment.

What effect would John the Baptist have had if he were obscure, or un-obtrusive?  The Baptizer had an “offensive” nature about him. Anyone who met him knew exactly what he was about, and his purpose.  He had DEFINATION.  God chose him especially for the role he played. The Apostle Peter was known to be a “hot-head.”  Even Moses had developed a “reputation” for being a HOTHEAD. And, David… well, he made a name for himself by planting a rock in Goliath’s forehead… killing him instantly, taking his head off as a trophy. He had DEFINIATION.

Jesus Christ has definition too.  He was the Son of God.  He was legendary for running around the country-side; curing the lame, healing the sick, giving sight to the blind, cleansing the leper; raising the DEAD. Jesus, too, was DEFINED, as He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; and on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.   How are you DEFINED?
