What kind of “obligations” do we have to our fellow-man, our co-worker, our family members and friends? What are we doing…. Each day… to help someone else with those challenges ….those they face each day? It makes “no-difference” if it’s a personal issue, a work issue, a play issue, or one of spirituality… we’re STILL OBLIGATED.
Jesus said in Matthew 22:36-40 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
It is incidental as to the circumstances (no… we’re not supposed to help rob a bank). We are still obligated to come to the aid of our brother and neighbor. Matthew 5:42 – Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. Romans 15:1 – We who are strong have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Proverbs 3:27 – Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.
This “love commandment” is a difficult one, I think, for men especially… you know all the LOVE “stuff.” (See my 5/22/15 posting about “loving” your neighbor…and how I overcame that issue). But, we MUST adhere to God’s commandment. It my own intension to bring this about more precisely; but because of my usually “quite-self,” I’m just not accustomed to “tending to other people… that much.” If you’re like me; and they just “fall down in front of me,” then I’ll help’em; but otherwise…. Um… not so much. But… I’m GONNA do better… I’m going to CHANGE…..why not join me? …. Blessings…cjlb….5/29/15
