W-O-W….FUN! Having lots of fun…that’s what I like to do… have FUN. How about you? Let’s just see “how much fun” we can have? As a youngster… I loved to water ski; and I still do… but NEVER do. I used to love to DRIVE FAST, and still do, but NEVER do. I used to want to fly “dare-devil,” and NEVER did… but still WANT to. I’ve always wanted a 38’ Larson Yacht; NEVER got one, but still WANT one. I’ve been to EUROPE several times, and would love to go again; but probably NEVER will. I’ve always wanted to climb the stairs to the top of the EMPIRE State Building, NEVER did, but still want to (but I did go to the top of the Eiffel Tower). I’ve always WANTED a 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible, almost got one, but didn’t, and probably NEVER will. I’ve always wanted to go back HOME… to Miami, Florida… and follow my ROOTS; but NEVER will.
There are countless things, I still want to do …all, to have FUN, and probably NEVER will. And, if you’re anything like me… you’re in the same “small boat” that I’m in. TRUE, my want list has gotten SMALLER, even though my AFFORDIBILITY has gotten larger…. The “want-to” is just not there, like it used to be. And, I believe, that I can ACCOUNT for a few of the reason(s).
First, I’m just getting “too-old” to do some of those things (even though I’m still “on-top” of my game), I realize “the RISK,” is not worth the FUN. If I “started doing” all of those “want-to’s,” and then, when FINISHED… what would I do? Roll over and DIE? So, I’m a bit leery of doing them all… I’m not ready to “cash-in.” If you’ve “done it all,” what’s the point in going any further?
I’ve also come to REALIZE that “having all that FUN,” comes at a PRICE. Sometimes, we can have a bit “too-much-FUN;” and the CONSEQUENCES are not worth the FUN. Remember satan, offering Christ “all the fun” that he (satan) had at his command….the WORLD. It is said in Matthew 4:9-11 – and he said to Him, “All these things I will give You, if You fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go, Satan! For it is written, ‘YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD, AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'” Then the devil left Him; and behold, angels came and began to minister to Him.
My problem was then, and still is, to some extent, that my “worldly-wants” were ALL-ABOUT-ME. I NEVER included God in very much of my “wants,” though I did visit Vatican City, and saw all the glory of ancient Rome. What I’m trying to do today, more-so, than ever before… is for my WANT-TO-LIST…. to be more oriented around… “Wanting more of God.” It’s safer… less risky, more complete, more SATISFYING, more humbling, and more joyful… and therefore…more FUN.
When the “fun-list is less-worldly,” I found that it’s “not all about-me,” anymore. Sure… there will be some on the NAYSAYER list, as always. You’ll be sneered at, laughed at, sometimes bullied; and the day will come… when you’re spit upon, and beat… all for being on God’s FUN list.
I John 3:5-6 tells us – Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. But only our soul is regenerated, the nature of the world is still in our spirit and desire the things of the world. Once we’re born again, we bring them subject to God’s Word.
First, apply the Word to bring under subjection the five senses through which the world contacts our spirit: affection, memory conscience, reasoning, and imagination. Next … bring the five senses of the flesh: sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell; subject to that sanctified spirit. If we are going to overcome the spiritual battle, we’ll know our Defense and our Weaknesses, and not underestimate the cunningness of the enemy. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal. Our defense is applying the Word of God… by FAITH.
So, let’s not be discouraged, as we are more than conquerors through Jesus, who strengthens us through Spiritual understanding of Scripture. Our Faith is our VICTORY, through greater understanding. No true believer is any stronger and spiritually alive, than his knowledge and obedience, to the pure Word of God. ….Blessings…cjlb…4/13/15
