“…My BIGGER POINT is that if “we’re not paying attention,” the opportunity is going to pass us by….”

"Listen to me........."

“Listen to me……..please.”

LISTEN, PAY ATTENTION…..it’s not always what is being said…often, is what’s not being said…that one must listen to.  In 1972, I was in New York City, with my then boss, on business, and as we were walking down 5th Avenue and 42nd St., he stopped turning to me, said:  “Brooks…the problem with you is that YOU’VE ARRIVED and don’t know it.”  Years later, that comment reached that part of my brain that connected with his meaning.  He was saying that I was “ahead of my time,” or, more to my words….that I was doing the job of someone much more mature, older, better educated, better equipped, more experienced, etc., and didn’t realize that I was already “big” in the business world.  I was Vice-President-CFO of a major regional distributor and was only 31, and still had not graduated college.  I was well on my way to business stardom.  I know, it sounds a little egotistical; and, you’re right; it is….because today…looking back…I’m very proud of reaching my goals (sin of pride).  That was 42 years ago, many deals, many opportunities, a few setbacks, many accomplishments, and millions of dollars ago.  My BIGGER POINT is that if “we’re not paying attention,” the opportunity is going to pass us by.  The fellow who is paying attention is the one who seizes the opportunity.  We cannot afford to fall asleep at the wheel.  I once told a fellow that if he would come under my wing, that I would make him a champion of champions.  He “officially declined.”  He didn’t want the pressure and stress that I was to guarantee him to be the price of his success.  Later, I offered the same opportunity to someone else, who recognized the potential of what I was offering.  He told me “straight-up,” that he didn’t like me, but he RESPECTED, TRUSTED, and BELIEVED in me, and he’d follow me where ever I wanted to go.  He did follow me for 20 years, becoming very successful.  As has, any number of people who were….paying attention.  This is the same opportunity that God offers each of us.  He offers us a 1000% return on our investment.  All He asks, in return, is that we Believe in Him, trust in Him, Confess and Repent, and Amend our ways.  Not a bad deal…. Romans 10: 8-10…But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART “– that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. ….Blessings…cjlb…5/3/14
