A DEFINING MOMENT in career building is when you realize that there are at least 100 people who can do the same thing that you do, just as good, and probably better….and they are first in line.
A REFINING MOMENT is when you decide to separate yourself from the “pack” by becoming an ORIGINAL rather than a COPY; a DOER rather than a SHEWER; a THINKER rather than a STINKER; a PUSHER rather than a CUSHION; the HOT-SPOT rather than the COLD-SPOT; a HUGGER rather than a SLUGGER; a GIVER rather than a TAKER; a HARD worker rather than HARDLY working; a PRO-BONO rather than PRO-HOBO….and finally… LEADING the followers… rather than FOLLOWING the leaders.
This time of year, with all the “graduation” ceremonies going on; our newly certifiable graduates are “thinking,”….OK…world….here I am…come and get me. Sure, some “very-few” will move into those $100K jobs, overnight, only to realize that “hard-work” goes along with the “big-bucks.” Are they prepared to “work-hard?” Or, are moving “back-home,” along with their counter-parts?
Those others, because they couldn’t find “that big paying job,” are “working” at the burger joint ….rather than “building their own burger joint.” During the economy of the last 8-9 years; there are a lot more “job-looker’s” than “job-hooker’s.” Even though the economy has loosened-up quite a bit… it’s got to loosen-up a bunch more, in order to absorb all the un-employable-graduates.
Those who were able, or about to be able, to get that “high-paying-job,” have recognized that their REFINING MOMENT is what has enabled them to “get ahead of the pack.” Most of the better colleges and universities are “filled to the brim” with new graduate-students, because they realized they were ill-prepared to enter the work-force….so “back-to-school” they went.
A part of this REFINING MOMENT has brought about a un-precedent amount of “new-entrepreneurs” starting their own businesses… because they could not find employment in their chosen fields. Hopefully the economy can support these newly-formed business men and women, who are struggling to survive… not just build their new enterprise, but to just pay their bills and learn their trade… before their “seed-money” is exhausted.
What does the Bible say about refining? In Proverbs 17:3, it tells us that “Metal is refined and purified in a furnace; the Lord purifies and tests the heart. And in Malachi 3:2-4, we are told “We must be REFINED before our offerings are acceptable to the Lord.” Remember, REFINING does not come from listening to sermons or reading the Bible; rather, it comes from being exposed to difficult situations and enduring affliction.
Pray that you might recognize the Hand of The Great Refiner in all difficult situations that we, so-commonly, have to deal with. 2nd Timothy 1:7 says: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. … Blessings… cjlb …6/7/15.
