“…Remember this, too… The POWER of ONE is just as important… rather you’re leaving a ‘bad impression… or a good one.’ We still have influence, almost always… where we least had expected…”

IMPRESSIONS?  First impressions count.  Even 2nd impressions.  Ok….all impressions count.

Very often… negatives labels stick with us our entire lives.  Recently, my granddaughter told of a fellow student who brought some alcohol to school.   Twenty years from now he will be remembered for that incident.  In later life… he can become a FAMOUS brain surgeon… but he will be most remembered for his having gotten kicked out of school…. rather than… all the good deeds of his life.

I can speak with some experience on this subject…as I was kicked out of high school …just three days before the end of the school year…in the 11th grade.  Believe me, my ‘bad deed’ PALED in comparison (a story for another time).  Yet… I’m still remembered as the boy who kicked out of school.  Unfortunately… I didn’t have any ‘brain surgeon’ deeds to cover my bad deeds.

Another fellow might have slighted someone on a business deal, another insulted someone’s wife; etc.,   All… too often… those bad decisions…. can have disastrous repercussions.   For most of us, this is how we might be remembered.

I ran into a former employee who reminded me of his once slighting me on the phone, not knowing who I was; and in a forgiving manner, I cautioned him…  “Always know… to whom you’re speaking to on the phone.”  IMPRESSION left?  The power of one.

Remember this, too… The POWER of ONE is just as important… rather you’re leaving a ‘bad impression… or a good one.’  We still have influence, almost always… where we least had expected.

John 4:5-42 – Speaking of ‘the POWER of One’ in first IMPRESSIONSremember about the story of Jesus and the woman at the well, as found in   The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew. I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” She said this because Jews don’t have anything to do with Samaritans. Jesus answered her, “You do not know what God’s gift is. And you do not know who is asking you for a drink. If you did, you would have asked him. He would have given you living water.”  “Sir,” the woman said, “you don’t have anything to get water with. The well is deep. Where can you get this living water?  Our father Jacob gave us the well. He drank from it himself. So did his sons and his livestock. Are you more important than he is?”  Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again.  But anyone who drinks the water I give them will never be thirsty. In fact, the water I give them will become a spring of water in them. It will flow up into eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water. Then I will never be thirsty. And I won’t have to keep coming here to get water.”

Depending on our own special circumstances…we too, are sent to give testimony ‘to others’ about Jesus, and the REFRESHMENT He offers to all of us in… Matthew 28:19-20…is very specific in Jesus’s instructions to each of us.  So you must go and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And you can be sure that I am always with you, to the very end.”

…Dear Lord, Bless us all…as we seek to live according to ‘Your Word.’…cjlb…9/3/2017
