A LEADER vs. a GOOD LEADER vs. a SUBURB LEADER vs. a BORN-LEADER: A Leader does not, always, have to be a good Manager. A leader, sometimes, is no more than an “idea man,” masquerading as a Leader. Or, he may be a good Motivator… a hustler. He could be considered a “poor manager,” and still be a “decent leader.” If Management will allow him to LEAD in those areas that he is “very good,” and supply him with the “needed management skill assistance,” …then, when combining the TALENTS of several…you end up getting what is needed. More ideally, though, is having BOTH… a good LEADER and a GOOD MANAGER… within the “same person.” That would qualify him to be a “suburb-leader.”
A Suburb Leader is generally BOTH a good Manager and a good Leader. Leadership, while like any admirable trait, is more often, than not, a GENETIC condition…. but, it also MUST be manifested (given a platform to grow and develop)…too often, good leaders are “ruined in their early developmental stages. They are “ruined” by BURN-OUT, or by management “not fulfilling” the AGREED-UPON-TERMS of their role as LEADER.
A Suburb Leader can also be ruined by “those demons” that seem to manifest themselves into the mind and heart of “super-quality-smart-leaders.” They sometimes get so “big for their britches” that they think they “walk on water.” And, therefore….are ruined before they hardly leave the starting gate.
I can make just about anyone into a Leader that has a “want-to” in their heart; but instilling leadership qualities into “just anyone” should not be the only objective, rather, the potential leader MUST process certain “in-born” traits (too many to list here), that must be developed, over time, so that they can become a MATURE LEADER. Not in age, of course, but in intensity, commitment, skills, drive, tenacity, and LOVE of their fellow man….and… I might add….GOD.
If they, the leader, don’t have that certain “killer instinct” and a total and complete commitment to helping others…. putting other’s before themselves, and putting GOD ahead of all else….then it (the process) will ultimately be a complete waste of time and utter failure. Their Leadership role will be SHORT-LIVED…. And likely NEVER resurrected.
You’ve heard the expression…. “He’s a BORN leader.” Those cliché’s are most used to describe people like Dwight Eisenhower, George Patton, Jack Welch, and yes… even Billy Graham, Mother Theresa, and Pope John-Paul II. Make “no mistake about it,” God has been the One who has “planted the seed” in EVERY GREAT LEADER.
Some Leaders are “born leaders,” solely because they simply KNOW HOW TO GET THE JOB DONE. They only have to be smart enough to “hire the right help.” Such as Donald Trump is claiming expertise in…today. They don’t have to “know how to make a watch,” but rather… how to hire the right people who do know how to make a watch.
This is what Jesus Christ did when he selected his Apostles… most importantly….the Apostle’s Peter and Paul. He knew how to hire the right help. And, of course, a “touch of the Holy Spirit” probably came into play there…. After all… He is God the Son. Sure… society has provided us with “great leaders” that were TERRIBLE people; but God will handle those “rascals;” …. rest assured… God will have the last word.
If you ever expect to hit the “big time” in LEADERSHIP, then pay heed to what we are taught in Titus 1:7-14 – For an overseer, as God’s steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it. For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party. They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. Also, in Hebrews 13:7 – Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.
