James 2:1-5 – My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? These are “not idle instructions” to be followed at whim. These words are said with PURPOSE, and on PURPOSE. There is not a “single-word” in the Bible that should be taken “like a grain of salt,” or to be taken lightly.
I was 50 years old before I began to take the Bible “seriously.” Most of it…I thought, was for “the other people,” ….not me. I came to realize that “each word” had my name written on it. The Bible was speaking “directly to me.”
I was 72, when finally, the “most important verse” in the Bible… to me… Matthew 28:19, took hold of my heart…and shook my cage: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” That was nearly four years ago, this verse “became alive” for me. I had heard it often over the years, but again…. I thought it was for “the other people.” Then, like a bolt of lightning…. It finally registered… that Jesus was “talking to me.” That is why you’re reading this message… right now. Because, finally …. I woke up to “his message;” and by “His instructions,” I’m SHARING it with you.
Today, I don’t sit idly-by any more, rather, I am “pro-active.” Sometimes… even aggressive. So, as for James 2:1-5…. Jesus is telling us “not to discriminate,” not to show partiality, or favoritism. It’s short, and it’s simple. Jesus has “promised us,” that if we LOVE Him, and obey His commandments… that the “kingdom” he promised us… is our “inheritance.”
Today, my Dear Mother, Mildred Norma Kohlhepp Lehman Barry Brooks, was born… 9/7/1915 > 6/16/1973…dying at age 55, much too young. God Bless her Soul.
